Stillness

Shutter speed 1/26. f-stop f/3.6. ISO 800.

The Tap Room, Cashel Mall, Christchurch. Exactly as it was abandoned on 22 February 2011 at 12.51pm, the time of the 6.3 earthquake. I quickly snapped this photo through the door as my friend, Laila, and I were walking down Cashel Mall to check out the ReStart container mall project. Taken on 4 December 2011. Eerie.

  1. I like the busyness of this photo – the more you look, the more you see. At first it looked like all the tables were set (and the place was strangely empty)… but when you look closer you see that all the dishes are dirty etc… So you wonder even more where everyone went!

    1. At first I thought that someone must have come back in and cleared the food away, but when you look closer at the bowls on the front table you can see that there are still bits of lettuce of something clinging to the side of the bowl. Rats, perish the thought.
